ABOUT SOGON LAGOS SECTOR

SOGON Lagos Sector is a branch of the larger national organization, the Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON) dedicated to promoting excellence in women’s healthcare in Nigeria. SOGON was established to address the unique challenges and needs within the field of gynaecology and obstetrics, with a focus on education, advocacy, and professional development.  The Lagos Sector of SOGON plays a pivotal role in advancing the objectives of the society within Lagos State, which is the most populous and economically significant state in Nigeria, by improving access to quality gynaecological and obstetric care, advancing medical education and research, and advocating for policies that promote women’s health and rights in Lagos State, Nigeria.

The Sector organizes various educational programs, workshops, and conferences aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of gynaecologists, obstetricians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. These events cover a wide range of topics, including maternal health, family planning, and reproductive health. The Lagos Sector encourages and supports research initiatives focused on addressing local healthcare challenges and improving clinical outcomes for women in Lagos State. By fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration, the Lagos Sector contributes to advancements in women’s health research and clinical practice and works closely with government agencies, policymakers, and other stakeholders to advocate for policies and programs that prioritize women’s health and well-being. In addition, by providing expert input and evidence-based recommendations, SOGON Lagos Sector strives to influence decision-making at the state level.

MISSION STATEMENT

SOGON is dedicated to the improvement of women’s health and rights and the reduction of maternal and new born mortality as well as advancing the science and practice of gynaecology and Obstetrics in Nigeria. The society shall pursue its mission through advocacy, programmatic activities and capacity strengthening of its members and partners.

VISION STATEMENT

It is an organization where all members are professionally empowered and committed to the pursuit of the rights of women to achieve the highest possible standards of physical, mental, reproductive and sexual health and well-being throughout their lives.
